Your experts read live data
Any expert with a notes skill can now search, read, and write to your local apps in real time.
Each app gets its own set of tools. Enable the corresponding skill on any expert to give them access.
Full access to your Bear notes database. Search by keyword, read full note content, browse tags, find backlinks, create and append.
Read and write to your Obsidian vault. Search across all markdown files, browse by tag, create new notes in any folder.
Access your Apple Notes library. Search notes, browse folders, read full content, and create new notes.
Portable Local reads directly from your apps in real time. But it also works when youβre away from your Mac.
Reads directly from your local database. Every edit you make is immediately visible to your experts. The synced Pinecone skill is automatically suppressed so the expert always gets the freshest data.
Notes are periodically synced and embedded in Pinecone for vector search. Your experts can still search your notes from any device, with slightly older data.
The same technology that powers Portable Local also lets you bring your experts into any MCP-compatible tool.
Portable Local reads your notes databases locally. Note content is sent to the AI model during your conversation, but never stored on Portable's servers.
Enable the Bear, Obsidian, or Apple Notes skill on individual experts. Only the experts you choose get access to your local notes.
Live access reads straight from the source database (SQLite for Bear, filesystem for Obsidian, CoreData for Apple Notes). No indexing delay, no stale embeddings.
When Portable Local isn't running, experts automatically fall back to synced notes via Pinecone. Your conversations keep working from any device.
Notes accessed via local tools build expert memory just like any other conversation. The expert remembers what it found in your notes.
Experts can create new notes and append to existing ones. Bear and Obsidian support bidirectional access. Great for having experts save summaries or decisions.
